How we work

Our approach to conservation

The Singita Lowveld Trust (SLT) is dedicated to maintaining healthy ecosystems and conserving vulnerable species in our care. Our skilled teams work closely with neighbouring communities to foster social and economic development that aligns with environmental stewardship, ensuring a sustainable future for both people and nature.

We focus on three key areas:

#1 Biodiversity Conservation:

We conserve wildlife and wilderness areas through effective reserve management, which includes caring for freshwater resources, preventing erosion, controlling invasive species, fire management, and wildlife monitoring.

A core focus is protecting wildlife through dedicated 24/7 Anti-Poaching and K9 units, along with advanced surveillance technology for early detection. SLT also supports research and monitoring of species of conservation concern, such as rhinos, lions, leopards, and large birds of prey.

#2 Our Community Partnerships embraces three main objectives:

  • to support quality education and skills development
  • the development of small rural enterprises
  • improving awareness of conservation and sustainable living

#3 Commitment to The Long Run:

In the past, Singita enjoyed a strong partnership with Bioregional's One Planet Living programme that covered all aspects of sustainability and became entrenched in the Singita culture. As of July 2024, we have taken the decision to move to the Long Run sustainability programme due to its specific focus on nature-based tourism in Africa.

The Long Run has over 60 nature-based members, conserving over 23 million acres of biodiversity. This opens many opportunities for peer networking and information exchange.

The underlying principles of sustainability we are so familiar with remain and are represented under the Long Run’s 4C framework: Conservation, Community, Culture, and Commerce (The 4Cs) and speak closely to our Global Goals.
